The old parsonage was sold last week to Werner Duerenfedt of Aurelia. Various local residents and families, including the Guenke, Koth, Prescot, Zwemke, Wogann, Hogrefe, Lietz, and Oito clans, visited or hosted gatherings at homes in Aurelia, Storm Lake, and nearby towns. A noted surgery occurred at Porath hospital in Storm Lake, and several clubs and church groups held meetings and lunches with members from Afton and Cedar Falls planning future events.
School board members from nine west central Iowa counties gather in Stetdon on Thursday March 23 to discuss transportation legislation state school board plans and administrative matters. Floyd Campbell Spencer first vice president presides with talks by Paul Norris Don Foster Dr Carl Kesler and other officials.
The Afton area Farm Bureau meeting featured 4-H boys presenting acts and demonstrations including piano duets by Marlyce and Arlo Mummert and a fire safety demonstration by Roger Mummert. Mrs. Victor Carlson led the meeting as vice chairwoman and minutes were read by Mrs. Wilmer Anderson. A kitchen upgrade to the Community building was reported as complete, with a cake walk and raffle closing the evening. Edgar Allen won the door prize and Mrs. St Paulson of Aurelia won the bridge set.
Lloyd Wells of Brooklyn has retired from his post as a rural route mail carrier after 26 years of service. He reflected on his career and thanked colleagues for their support during his decades with the postal service.
The state will mail 1950 hunting and fishing license leaflets March 20 to over 1500 license sellers. Licenses go on sale April 1 at county offices, conservation officers, sporting goods stores, boat livery, banks, and similar venues. Resident licenses cost 1.50 and combination licenses 2.50. Funds support the fish and game division. not from general taxes. Also notes a Denison native Cecil DeWitt now in Omaha lost a $200 billfold after cashing an insurance dividend check.
