Rev Vernon White, pastor since April last year, was ordained as a minister at Mt Olive Church on Wednesday February 22. The event drew about 100 attendees with delegates from seven churches. The ordination included examines by Rev G R Siemans and charges by Rev F A Jones and Rev M L Dilley. A Bible was presented to Rev White by W H Fishman.
Mrs A L Neville reports that Oliver Goldsmith, author of The Vicar of Wakefield, was held prisoner by his landlady while Dr Samuel Johnson peddled and sold the work for him.
The Community Club met Monday night with a good turnout despite the storm. Vice president Chas Nelson presided in place of Irwin Do Kroll. Members approved a 1.50 per person winter fund and discussed postponing membership drives until fall while planning livestock and poultry shows for Farmers Picnic next fall. A farm-to-market road bill resolution urged the state senator to support it. A noonday meeting is set for next Monday and a night session the following Monday.
The ad promotes Automobile Insurance from Harry H. Lockin Insurance Agency. It claims long relationships with major companies, a strong loss service, and affordable premium charges for drivers from Aurora to Cherokee.
The Alta Cyclones clinched the Sioux Valley Conference title by beating Cleghorn 36 to 21 on Alta’s floor Friday evening. Cleghorn entered with an undefeated conference record, while Alta had one conference loss. Conference standings follow.
Notice to telephone patrons announces new monthly rents effective April 1 1939. Business phones 1.50, other phones 1.25, desk mono plane and call bell add 25 cents, common battery 50 cents. Immaculate Conception Parish reports Masses at an I C church in Cherokee at 6 30 8 and 10 with a sermon at each. Additional services occur at Mission Station Aurelia Schroeder Building Magy on the second and fourth Sundays, with times 8 and 10 respectively.
Mr and Mrs A H Waddell observed their sixty seventh wedding anniversary at their Aurelia home on February 18 with family visiting. The couple, married in Lowell Wisconsin, settled in Diamond township in 1881 after a crossing in a covered wagon, raising seven children and accumulating forty three grandchildren and sixty one great grandchildren.
Diamond Center reports winners in oral and written spelling by grade led by Kenneth Schulke No 2 and Irene Kreutz No 8. Overall top scorers: Kenneth Schulke and Irene Kreutz. Local moves include Hugo Nelson and other families relocating, plus social club gatherings at the Haights.

The church schedules include a 10:00 a m Sunday school led by George Lamm and an 11:00 morning worship service. Epworth League meets at 7:00 p m with Delores Peterson as president and Sunday evening leadership by Shirley Thevenin and Ellen Ohlgon. Regular choir rehearsals are Mondays at 7:30 p m. Doughnut Day and sale is Thursday March 9 chaired by circle four and part of the town circle. A spring Lent series features Sunday services and a call to sacrifice and cross denial. Visitors are warmly welcome to all services.
A church offers a 10 a m school and 11 a m morning worship. The Junior and Senior Endeavor meet, and there is a chief rehearsal Tuesday evening at Miss Ayleworths apartment. Hotel Lockin hosts at 7 30.
