Death of Swan Peterson in Galva shocks Alta community
The Alta and vicinity were stunned by the death of Swan Peterson after an operation in Des Moines. Born in Sweden in 1844, he came to America in 1869 with his wife and two children and lived in Star County, Illinois, before settling near Alta and later moving to Galva. He left ten children, four of whom survive, and his funeral was held at the Alta Methodist church. The piece also condemns child labor and praises Jane Addams and Hull House for social reform.
