A wedding on the Larrabee ball grounds last Wednesday at 3:00 p m united Fannie Aurelia and a groom described as a noted ball club figure. Arthur Lefty and others thwarted an attempted rival suitor with a bat and ball before the ceremony, and the marriage was performed with enthusiastic Aurelia supporters present.
The June 5 ceremony united Rose M Lane and Herbert B Freeborn in Silver township. The couple, well supported by friends and relatives, enjoyed a wedding supper for about fifty guests before traveling to Starkweather North Dakota where Freeborn works as a grain dealer.
Ordinance Forty amends sections of ordinance eight to require dog and bitch owners to pay annual license fees of one dollar per dog and two dollars per bitch. The marshal collects fees, with penalties for noncompliance. The updated rules set the license due date and demand collar identification.
Des Moines Iowa reports the best growing week of the season with normal temperatures and above average rainfall. Showers were frequent though amounts varied, with heavy storms in Wayne and Decatur counties causing field damage. All crops show good progress. oats and some fall wheat risk lodging. corn cultivation rushed. pastures and hay yield strong locally. fruit crops like strawberries and cherries improving with good rainfall.
The Boys club returned from a camping week and showed good spirit. One week from Sunday Children Day will be observed with children in every service. Meyer schoolhouse meetings are well attended. seats were scarce last Sunday. Next service is Sunday June 30 at 2 30 p m. Envelope Sunday is next Sunday. Prayer meeting continues Wednesdays at 8 p m. Ladies Aid meets with Mrs Ed Rice on Thursday June 27. Services at usual hours next Sunday with cordial invitation.
Herbert Briegel a LeMars youth who deserted the U S Navy about a year ago gave himself up Monday evening in LeMars He had been hiding in California and the western states saying he tired of dodging officers He planned to return finish his term and was to register for his sentence at Sioux City station where officials would sentence him according to the LeMars Globe Post.
The official canvass by the executive council gave Allen 62 270 votes and Chassell 61 502, a 768 vote plurality for the Fairfield Republican. Chassell, in Chicago, conceded to Allen by telegram, with figures based on county auditors later confirmed by the secretary of state.
