Nyle Bischel of Harvey son of Kermit Bischel a former Aurelia resident was awarded a four year scholarship to Purdue University for scholastic achievement He is a Harvey High School honor roll member and National Honor Society inductee He will enter Purdue in September His father is a Aurelia High School graduate
The engagement of Margaret Anne Gebhardt daughter of the Rev and Mrs J E Gebhardt Aurelia to Merry Schulke son of Mr and Mrs Ted Schulke Aurelia was announced last week The wedding is planned for late August.
Sunday ceremony at the Storm Lake Church of Christ joined Miss Cleone Louise Van Winkle and Virgil J. Dyslin. Rev. Alvin Giese officiated as the couple, with brief remarks and attendees including family members from Storm Lake and Aurelia. The groom is on furlough from the Marine Corps and will report to Camp Pendleton June 30.
The Red Cross summer program at City park opens for all Aurelia children with beginner lessons at 8:15 on Monday and intermediate sessions on Fridays. About 70 youngsters are enrolled and transportation to Cherokee is provided by the local chapter. Lloyd Patterson and Verner Johnson chair the Community council playground efforts.
A son was born June 10 to Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Clark in Salt Lake City Utah. The mother formerly Betty Ohlson. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ohlson of Aurelia and Mr. and Mrs. Clark of Mason City Nebraska.
A church softball league in Aurelia released a 7 p.m. schedule at Aurelia Ballpark with Tuesday games and rescheduled postponements. The slate lists June 24 Congos vs Methodists, July 1 Methodists vs Lutherans, July 8 Congos vs Lutherans, July 15 Congos vs Methodists, July 22 Lutherans vs Methodists, July 29 Congos vs Lutherans, Aug 5 Congos vs Methodists, and Aug 12 Lutherans vs Methodists.
Pvt Elmer Brune Jr from Ft Bliss Texas visits his parents Mr and Mrs Elmer Brune Sr and Mrs Arthur Hicks during a two week furlough. Don Brune spends a day in Olathe Kansas with Don before returning to the Coronado California base. Cpl Glen A Dyslin Jr leaves after a furlough with his parents to report to Alexandria Louisiana with his new address listed for the 132 Air Police Squadron.
The Aurelia Junior Midgets of the Junior Midget Sportsman league will face Storm Lake Midgets at Aurelia Ball Park Friday at 6 p.m. They stand 1-1 in league play and will next travel to Marathon before returning to Aurelia to meet a Schaller team. The league is led by president A A Rapp and includes teams from Cherokee Schaller Aurelia Storm Lake Odebolt Newell Sac City Galva Marathon and Rembrandt.
Aurelia American Legion post holds its annual officer election at the Legion hall tonight. All members are urged to attend this important gathering for the coming year.
Two Aurelia teams the Married Men and the Aurelia FFA play in an Alta league with six other clubs. Games run Tuesday and Friday evenings at 7 30 p m on the Alta diamond. The Married Men face Wes D X and the FFA meets Hanover Friday with the two teams set to play each other next Tuesday.
Gaylen Miller son of Mr and Mrs John Miller received the annual DeKalb accomplishment award and medal as outstanding senior vocational agriculture student and FFA member at the June FFA chapter meeting. The honor reflects scholarship leadership and agricultural pursuits with Miller noted for National Honor Society election and four years in active FFA including chapter president.
One fourth of an inch of rain fell here during the past week bringing the month's total rainfall to 1 and 9-20 inches. A shower last Friday night with high winds toppled branches and caused damage to light and telephone lines.
