Alta team crushed by 19 to 1 at Galva farmers picnic. Aurelia won the purse. May set a cold record. Storm Lake beat Aurelia 4 to 1 at Aurelia park. Edith Bushnell and Lottie Farr depart for Oregon and California then Spokane for schooling. Sentinel ads boost business.

Obituary for David Johns Pioneer of Afton Township

David Johns born June 6 1836 in London England died May 28 1917 aged 10 years 11 months 22 days after a brief illness of heart trouble. He came to America with family in 1844 settling in Dupage County Illinois moved to Hardin County Iowa in 184 and to Grundy County 1869 then to Afton Township Cherokee County where he lived thirty two years. He married Emma Rice October 10 1858 who died May 14 1893. seven children survive George Galva Fred Gillett Grove Frank and Maria Johns Clem Reckoff Carrie Robinson and Emma Whiting Aurelia. twenty two grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Funeral held at home last Wednesday conducted by Rev Seeley and interment Pleasant Hill Cemetery Aurelia. Distance relatives attended from Iowa Falls Ackley Abbott Popejoy Spencer.

A brilliant meteor was seen overhead about ten o'clock last Thursday, flashing from northeast to southwest. Witnesses reported intense light and a thunderous shock felt minutes after, with sightings across Iowa Nebraska Minnesota and South Dakota.

Town Well Pump Trial Proves Inadequate

The town council tested a new well pump last week but found water flow insufficient after a day of pumping. Contractor Janssen will drill a new hole while the council approves a double action pump that provides a continuous stream and faster water delivery.

A Monday night meeting organized a Cherokee Red Cross branch in Aurelia to aid the nationwide movement. Officers elected include Chairman P. D. Wine and Vice Chairman Edith Marsh, with J. C. Nelson as Secretary and W. H. Bischel as Treasurer. The board features Mesdames Lockin, Nelson, Whinery, Whitney, Elsie Nelson, Maud Morgan, Dan Whitney, Earl Fraser, W. H. Reever, W. Moulton, E. G. Methodist Church Notes: Pastor to Preach Twice Next Sunday

Regular services will be held next Sunday at the Methodist church with Rev. C. H. Young preaching in the morning on Pilate's Great Question and in the evening on Making the Most of Time. Two Aurelia Graduates Highlight ISU Commencement List

Five hundred degrees and certificates will be conferred by the State University of Iowa across two spring commencements. The regular ceremony in Iowa City is set for June 13, followed by a June 16 special commencement for Fort Snelling trainees. Cherokee county graduates include Archie R. Nelson in Law, Francis H. Molyneux in Dentistry, and Oran K. Parrott in Law, all from Aurelia.
