A large barn on the John Hyndman farm north of Cherokee burned at 4 a.m. from spontaneous hay ignition. no livestock lost. Lester C. Ary has won a summer school scholarship at the State University of Iowa College of Law. Lester Gleason, 14, drowned at the Big Sioux near Riverside Park while swimming beyond safety ropes. James Cooper, 18, a Sioux City youth, drowned trying to rescue him.

Notice of Probate Hearing for Beeghley Will in Cherokee

An instrument purporting to be the last will of C. C. Beeghley, dated January 26, 1927, was filed and opened. A hearing to prove the will is set for August 22, 1927, at 10 a.m. at the Cherokee County District Court, before the Clerk, requiring all interested persons to appear and show cause why the will should be probated. Dated Cherokee Iowa July 28 1927. Clerk F. J. Carpenter and Attorney W. K. Herrick.

Fred Cammack Dies at 52 After Short Illness Near Aurelia

Fred Cammack son of Nathan and Jane Cammack died Monday morning at his home on the Charles Lockin farm southwest of Aurelia after a brief illness. Born March 29, 1876 near Salem Town, he lived in Arco Minnesota and Sac City before moving to Aurelia last fall. He married Edna Bragg January 26, 1898, and they had six children Errol Erwin Roger Curtis Kenneth Olive, all at home at his death. He leaves wife, children, five grandchildren, six brothers and four sisters. Funeral rites were held in Gowrie after services at the home conducted by Rev. Geo. C. Safford. burial in Gowrie cemetery.

East Afton and Elk Word of Local Visits and Illness

Mrs Henry Lansen was taken ill last Wednesday and underwent an appendicitis operation at Sioux Valley hospital on Saturday. Mrs Bill Booth and children visited Aurelia Friday. Howard Haight family and others visited Cherokee last Wednesday. Doris Martin of Los Angeles visited briefly. Booth and Booth families and Geo Booth drove to the Pierce home near Pierson Sunday returning via LeMars with Mrs Brangwin. Henry Carrington of Los Angeles stayed overnight with his sister Mrs Howard Haight. R J Hines of Aurelia spent night in Bill Booth home. Louis Bouchey of Aurelia called on Bill Booth Monday evening.

Funeral for Emma D Hilderbrand Relocation Details

Mrs Emma D Hilderbrand died July 10 in Long Beach California after illness of four years. Her funeral was held at the M E church and the body was laid to rest with relatives in Buena Vista. A July report notes the town’s fair opening August 16 with expectant exhibitors. Marshal Farrow reported street work with calcium chloride coating and several blocks treated this week.

Jinx Pursues Dumbells In Kitten Ball Games

The Jinx chase Dumbells in kitten ball games drawing large crowds at the city park each night. Dumbells sit in cellar of percentage column with no wins but several close losses including a single score defeat last week and a 6 to 6 tie this week.
