Rumored challenge to Iowa Republican state chair York
Reports from Des Moines indicate a possible contest to retain Willis York as state Republican chairman and to oppose him for district committeeman in the sixth district. York, who succeeded Fred Gilbert in 1943, faces a rival group that also opposed him in the 1944 convention, with no confident forecast for next week’s district fight.

Statewide rabbit hunting opens August 1 with high pop outlook
The state announces an August 1 opening for cotton tail and jack rabbit hunting with a daily bag limit of ten and no possession limit. Rabbit populations rose last season except in some areas and observers note a continuing upward trend since 1940. About 2,400,000 rabbits entered hunters pockets last season, but heavy hunting usually follows the first general snow.
