Richard Nelson died July 5 1949 at age 79 in Aurelia Iowa son of Hans Nelson. He married Mary Dieterich on December 19 1894 and was survived by two sons Corvin and Howard, a granddaughter Patricia Rae Nelson a grandson Howard Adsit Nelson and three great grandsons Van Randy and Tickie Nelson. He also leaves twin brother August Nelson of Aurelia another brother John C Nelson of Cherokee and several nieces and nephews. He joined the Congregational church early and funeral services were held July 7 with six nephews as pallbearers.
A Sunday picnic at Otto Plautz home drew relatives from Milford and Ida Grove. Out of town guests included Gerald Noble and family, and Aug Swanson with Marge, from Rockford, plus Olaf Ogren and family of Colorado. Emil Carlson hosted 40 at a dinner for Reckford H. Johnson’s 40th anniversary work. Carl Johnson's Smorgasbord welcomed 50 from Rockford and Aurelia with music by Skosberg and Nyren. Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid met with 18 at the church parlor, Rev Braunschweig leading devotionals. Jelly Janes held a large Storm Lake picnic with guests from Aurelia and Storm Lake. Dewey Deyloff shot moving pictures.
The Afton 4-H girls held a July 12 meeting at the Afton Community Center with Karol Grashoff as hostess. Donna Fraser led the session as vice president while seventeen members two guests and three leaders attended.
Aurelia and Alta played a five inning tie game last Friday night at the field. The match ended 5 to 5 due to darkness. Aurelia pitchers Leekin Nelson and Kaskey hurled well while Lenz and G Anderson caught. Aurelia had six hits to Alta’s two with Lenz scoring twice and KX. Rapp Lockin and F Rapp each crossed the plate once.
