Ten years ago Mrs. Carrie Robinson died after a lingering illness in Aurelia. Wattie’s Aurelians entered the semi pro state baseball tournament at Adel after recent wins. Betty Coombs was chosen Miss Aurelia and will vie in the western Iowa contest July 19. A baby girl arrived to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Johansen of Edmund North Dakota. Twenty years ago a blistering heat wave peaked at 104 degrees, highest in a week. Thirty years ago Roy E. Becker stayed on as Motor Inn Co. garage manager amid a local business sale. A June wedding united Miss Carrie McClain and George Thomas. A new residence was built by Paulson Bros. Forty years ago a cattle shed burned on a Diamond township farm. two local weddings and the death of Mrs. George Anspach were noted.

Carnival for Veterans at State Hospital Planned
Cherokee county units of the American Legion Auxiliary will stage an outdoor carnival for veterans at the state hospital. The event begins at 1 30 p m with Mrs Helen Specht chairing and Mrs Ruby Carlson assisting. Units will donate prizes cash for lunch and treats and a program item. Members from Aurelia may contact Ruby Carlson or DeLores Johnson to help.

Former Aurelian Dies At Home In Modesto California
B. A. Bundy, 79, died last Friday at his Modesto home after a heart ailment. Funeral services were held there Monday with burial in Modesto. Bundy once ran Aurelia drug stores in the early 1900s and also owned a Cherokee establishment. He moved to California over 85 years ago and worked as a pharmacist until two years ago. Survived by his son Daryl of Modesto and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Welch of Los Angeles and Mrs. Fisk of Sacramento.

More than 200 farmers in Cherokee county will receive a 5 percent dividend from the Cherokee County National Farm Loan Association. F H Diercks says checks totaling over 38200 are being mailed to those with Federal Land bank loans through the cooperative, funded by a recent Omahas land bank dividend. The Country Ramblers 4 H Club met Wednesday afternoon with fourteen members two guests and a special guest present. Mrs Clyde Kudrle led roll call and discussed exhibits for the local achievement day set for August 1 at the K of P hall Aurelia. Plans included a swimming party at Storm Lake a July 21 Farm Bureau Women picnic entertainment July 11 salad talk by Jean Eddy and host Mardel Lewis with lunch served by Mardel Lewis and her mother. The next meeting will be at Kay Clarks July 27 and thanks were given for the ice cream social success.

Scouting Drive Planned for July in Prairie Gold Area
A county wide Scouting fundraising drive runs July 16 to 22 in 19 counties with headquarters at Fort Dodge. Aurelia co chairs H V Nelson and Eric Carlson mobilize local solicitors while Loren Anderson serves as county treasurer. The drive funds Scouting programs for youth ages 8 to 18 and exploring for older youths sponsored by churches and civic groups.

Meriden beat Aurelia 6 0 in the first round and 5 38 in the semi final. Grand Meadow beat Galva 16 5 to reach the finals. Reed pitched for Aurelia Meriden with 10 walks. both sides had five hits.

The Aurelia Sentinel was sold by the E. C. Lighter Estate to William H. Buist of Sioux City. Possession will be given Monday July 17. Buist, a former foreman and acting publisher in Mapleton, has a nursing wife, Mrs. Buist. The Lighters note 38 years of family ownership and transfer all outstanding accounts to the new owner upon possession.
