Soil Conservation Channel Projects On Local Farms
Senior foreman Frankie G. Meyer leads a crew building about 400 feet of channel changes and three ballast stream bank deflectors on the J. H. Ament farm in Pilot township. Kent B. McAden oversees work starting on 200 feet of channel change on Viktor Nelson’s farm in Spring township with 300 feet of willow mat stream bank protection and one floating current diverter planned. Additional work includes 100 feet of bank protection on O. L. Gilbert’s Spring township farm and a short channel change. The Soil Conservation Service notes these winter projects protect valuable tillable land from erosion around sharp bends where cutting is rapid, though they are secondary to terracing and other winter tasks.
