Anson Jones the Yankee Ties Texas to Its Founding

Born January 20 1798 in Great Barrington Mass Anson Jones studied medicine in Litchfield and practiced in 1820 he wandered to Texas settling in 1833 He helped lead the Texan independence and served as minister to the United States later becoming Texas president In 1845 he oversaw Texas annexation and saw the republic end His death on January 8 1858 was by his own hand in Washington County Texas He believed Texas erred in giving up independence.
