A 1941 chronology notes November items from Aurelia including wings earned by Burdette McKnis and inductions at Fort Des Moines Des Moines naval school. It records residents marrying and moving to Baltimore and Cherokee a fire department action a farm sale election results and club honors with several local names and dates.
Ty eight men picked about 30 acres of corn for Elmer Brune who had broken his leg. Don Porter named on the fourth all state prep football squad. December 11 Betty Pruitt Char lene Ohlson and Ruth Lehnhardt won first at the preliminary state contest at Alta. Jess McDeid died Monday morning. December 18 Mrs A E Krout reelected cemetery association president. Melvin Anderson Phyllis Bjorklund Jean Mongan and Kenneth Wickersheim to represent Aurelia school in county spelling contest in Cherokee. December 25 Aurelia post office busy. A R Nelson of Cherokee elected president of Iowa Association of County Attorneys. Peoples Telephone Co purchased H J Reimers stock.
Butcher hogs jumped to a new high of 11.95 on the Sioux City market Tuesday as sows topped 11.15 the previous day. Slaughter cattle held steady with top at 13.75 and most lots between 11.00 and 12.50. Lambs traded near steady, with a top of 11.85 on Monday and Tuesday. Cherokee county shippers including Chas Schulke and Aaron Holderness marketed hogs and cattle at the Sioux City market last week.
The Peoples Telephone Co holds its annual meeting in the Community Club room Aurelia Iowa on Saturday February 14 1942 at 1 30 p m for electing officers and annual business. All stockholders are urged to attend. 482 A L McKinnon secretary. Sell Swap Rent Buy via the Want Ad way.
Mr and Mrs William Glienke near Truesdale celebrate 25th wedding anniversary with relatives and friends. Guests play five hundred with high scores awarded to August Fett and Mrs Adolf Vogler. Other local visits include Oswald Nielsen home supper guests and Schaller area socials. Born Monday night a son to Louis and Mrs Huseman.
The government places Goodwill Industries in one of eight preferred salvage groups, joining the Wall Street Mission of Sioux City and local church groups assisting in collecting discarded articles. Citizens should bundle paper and leave it outside the Goodwill bag for pickup. Aurelia pickup date will be announced in the Sentinel.
A column cites tests on 12 cars showing 20 to 40 mph yields 18 to 22 mpg while 70 mph drops to 12 mpg and engines use seven times more oil at 55 mph than at 30 mph. It notes tire wear rises with speed and warns fast driving is highway robbery. Meanwhile a Grundy Center area story says bees have occupied the Akin farm house for over 60 years and are being smoked out with siding removed. more than 150 quarts of honey have been taken from the hive.
A pheasant takes residence in the basement of the William Osterholm home in Waverly after possibly being struck by a car driven by Paul Karns of Waterloo. The bird will be released in warmer weather. Nearby Vernon Springs rural pupils gain hot lunches a radio and other amenities with recent electrification and new appliances.
Church services listed with morning worship at 11 a.m. and Sunday school at 10 a.m. I. P. Fellowship and Junior society meet at 7 p.m. Ladies Aid to meet Thursday afternoon February 12. Committee members named: Mrs. E Trigg, Mrs. Art Hickey, Mrs. Burt Mummert, Mrs. Oren Coombs.

The Missionary circle of the WSC S will meet Wednesday February 11 at Mrs Lillian Ohlson's home with Mrs Lydia Larson and Mrs Gertrude Russell assisting as hostesses and Mrs Helen Hench leading.

Marcus outscores Aurelia 26 24 in the second OT after a late rally. Barnes scores 18 for Marcus as Hamann leads Aurelia with nine. Marcus edged ahead 24-24 at regulation end after a tight, back and forth game on the local floor.
The independent Aurelia basketball squad won two of three games. They edged Hayes 47 46 at Hayes and beat Swanson of Storm Lake 62 34 at Alta. They lost 32 29 to Albert City Indies on Albert City’s floor. Coach Nitzke and players Thomas Marvel Anderson and Huseman are on the Aurelia team with Fassler filling in Tuesday for Thomas.
Aurelia junior high basketball lost to Storm Lake 19-13 on Aurelia’s floor after trailing 9-5 at halftime. Regular forward Donnie Wieland was out sick. A return game with Storm Lake is scheduled for Feb 12 on Storm Lake’s floor. Aurelia also plays Cherokee Friday night in a prelim at Cherokee High School.
Mrs Dale Sleezer was honored at a miscellaneous shower in the William Sleezer home with hostesses including Opal Cave and Katie Menefee. Over 60 friends attended from Afton and nearby counties as guests wrote recipes for the bride. Other notes mention a bridge game at the Woltman home and a wedding license obtained in Shenandoah for Robert Read and Maribelle Redfield.
The notice lists prominent live stock feeders from the territory whose cattle were sold by Ingwersen Bros on the Sioux City Market in January 1942. Feeders praised the sales and service, and are invited to have their names appear in this column soon.
