New Years Weekend Post Office Schedule
The post office closes Friday January 1 with no mail or rural routes. Saturday January 2 opens but routes do not operate. Farmers may pick up mail 9 to noon at the Post Office. Mail is received and dispatched once on January 2 at 9:00 a.m. Incoming mail arrives 7:30 a.m.
Return from Vietnam brings Randy Newton home for Christmas
Randy Newton has returned from a year of duty in Cambodia and Vietnam and spent Christmas Eve with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Burt Mummert, at Beaver Dam Wisconsin. He will stay on leave at his home and report to Fort Riley Kansas after. Other guests included Mr. and Mrs. Don Mummert and their family.

Aurelia Volunteer Fire Department answered three calls last week. First, a Hugo Hucke farm furnace motor overheated causing minor damage southwest of Aurelia. Thursday, Benson Trucking office near Main Street saw extensive interior damage from an overheated oil furnace. Monday, at the Lillie Fierk residence now owned by the Haselhoffs, an oil burner backfired causing slight damage.

Electric Rate Hike Planned by Iowa Public Service Company

Spaghetti Supper Scheduled at Aurelia School Jan 8

Services Held for Mrs Lichtenberg 71 Alta
Funeral services for Mrs Walter Lichtenberg 71 of Alta were held Tuesday at St John s Lutheran Hanover with Rev Dennis Schultz officiating. She died December 19 and is buried in the church cemetery. Pallbearers included Harvey Lichtenberg and six others. She was born March 18 1899 in Buena Vista County and married Walter Lichtenberg in 1925. She leaves husband two sons Roger and Lyle six grandchildren and a great granddaughter with siblings and in laws listed.
