Looking Back Into the Past Ten to Thirty Years

Ten years ago Frank H. Kohn of Pilot township elected president of the Cherokee County Farm Bureau. Aurelia college students home for holidays include Roy Nelson Herbert Herald Lester Blanch Grace Blanch from Ames Irwin Matzdorff Clifford Lewis Burl Mummert from Iowa City and Helen Gustafson Norma Lewis from Cedar Falls. New Year worship at St John s Evangelical Reformed Church in Aurelia begins Sunday January 2 with services at 2 pm the January February and March schedule notes worship only on the first Sunday if weather allows. Rev August Bock.

Mr and Mrs Kermit Goettsch and daughter Marlys took Mrs Ellen Wahlstrom to Denver with plans for her to proceed to California. Dorothy Peterson elected to International Honor Society for Business Education. Manager Hrachovec announced he would leave Alta. he and Mrs Hrachovec planned to depart after last program. He cited inability to make the theatre pay and $1100 cost in two months in Alta.

Cherokee News Highlights Local Auctions Clergy Promoted

Nearly 1 000 farmers attended the Cherokee Livestock Auction sale of over 200 head south of town. Rev Peterson was installed as Memorial church pastor with Presbyterian pastors taking part. Almeda Nelson was promoted to assistant principal at Stowe grade school Des Moines from a primary teaching post. Ice cutting began on the Little Sioux river for storage. City and county officers questioned eleven youths aged 14 to 18 about recent automobile robberies.

Cherokee Times reports a light January district court docket with 18 petitions filed so far. Court opens Monday at 9 a.m. with Judge O S Thomas presiding. grand jury meets opening day at 1 30 p m. First case is the mayoralty contest between A J Nordstrom and J A McDonald, followed by First Trust Joint Stock Land Bank Chicago versus John Paposky foreclosure.
