Washington and London officials report that the Sir Francis Drake estate racket is being investigated and the British Foreign Office has long said no Drake estate exists in England. Despite prior warnings, U S citizens remain solicited by agents claiming an interest in the mythical estate, with impostors seeking funds and promises of court action.
A church program features opening songs and prayers led by pastors, with numerous recitations and songs by children and adults. The event includes violins, choruses, a star of the East drill, gifts distribution, and a Christmas dialogue and pageant.
The Mt Olive Baptist Church hosts a Sunday Evening program with piano solos and greetings from Shirley Leeds Beverly Ohlson and Harold Nation. A pantomime Away in a Manger features Anne Dukes and five primary girls along with a Christmas church service including scripture readings and a candle light ceremony.
The program at the Methodist Church features a Reverend led invocation. Primary Department presents songs and exercises led by Mrs Culver and Fern Parrott pupils. Irene Paulson, Joan Will perform a lullaby with others. A Christmas story solo by Deloris Peterson and a playlet One Most Beautiful Tree are planned.udience participation with Silent Night hymn.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Ohlson hosted a six o clock dinner Saturday night for the silver wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Theodore Nordstrom, observed Sunday December 18. A large gathering of relatives attended with relations from nearby towns.
The Ohlson family hosted a Christmas colored dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ohlson twenty fifth anniversary and Mrs. Nordstrom. Guests heard readings and songs by Rev. C L Liming Mrs. Clifford Ohlson Lloyd Ohlson and Lawrence Boothby with presentations and a benediction. Flowers were given to the hostess Anna and Vera Nordstrom. The event was warmly remembered by all attendees.
Nearly everyone in Afton and vicinity has or has had lagrippe. Last week there was little news as most stayed home. Several ladies who had escaped the cold braved the weather to attend Louie Melton's club gathering. Each member was present.
A club planned to donate food and distribute Christmas baskets to two needy families in Cherokee. Sufficient items arrived to assist one family, with hope to gather enough for the second before Christmas. Walter Kolpin and family visited Alta Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Zwick remains ill with grip with slight improvement noted. Ernestine Groff hosted Lorna Robinson in Cherokee. Raymond Zwick returned to school after illness. District No. 2 reports a chicken pox surge among scholars. Ernest and Victor Swanson visited Alta, with Victor staying at Earl Zwick’s during the grip outbreak.
Mrs. Lester Kolpin and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Heuseman were business callers in Sioux City Monday. A trustee meeting convened at the Wm. Frederick home Wednesday evening with Herman Wrede Charles Zwemke and Wm. Speckerer present. Mr. and Mrs. Eddy Miller and family visited that evening. Dick Schmidt was a business caller at Alta Thursday. Watch your subscription date.
