Swindle exposé ties India trip to Farmers scam
The Spirit Lake Beacon reports Marshal Spangler and C Ju Brown traced a local grocery swindle against farmers to Morris and Chicago, where agents aimed to deliver doctored teas coffees spices and baking powders from a bogus Farmers Wholesale Grocery Co led by O Gatton and Field. A jail arrest followed and Field paid over 50 after court pressure. An 1889 letter praises Hibards Rheumatic Syrup from Mosers Folay Bros and a note requests book cleanups by January.
