Mrs. Harriet McCurdy hosted a Christmas supper for guests including A L Rudnick and Beverly from near Auburn. Various clubs held December meetings with high and low scores, gift exchanges, and festive luncheons at dozen households.
The Aurelia Sentinel announces Christmas card orders with name imprinting available. Customers choose designs and provide the desired imprint for delivery ahead of the holiday season.
The Aurelia Woman's Club held its annual Christmas party at the Congregational church on December 9. President Edith Ohlson opened with a prayer, the program featured vocal and violin performances, readings, and a Christmas lunch prepared by club members.
The Aurelia Independents posted a 3 and 1 week with wins over Meriden Brooke and Larrabee and a late overtime victory. Nelson led Aurelia with 10 points in the Meriden game while Larson scored 7 in the Brooke and Larrabee contests.
Aurelia loses 33 14 as Milford controls second half. Aurelia second team edges 31 30 in thriller. Coburns quintet show early promise despite the defeat.
The annual F F A Parent and Son banquet will be held Thursday December 22 at 6 45 p m in the high school auditorium. About 140 people are expected to attend. Rev E Wayne Hilmer pastor of the local Methodist church will give the principal address. A program has been planned with the F H A girls serving.
Cherokee County Masters meeting reveals pairings for the county basketball tournament to be held at Cherokee from January 24 to 28. Aurelia faces Quimby January 24 at 7 30 pm in its debut, with Monday and Tuesday first round games, Wednesday semifinals, and Saturday finals and consolation rounds.
Aurelia freshman team defeated Alta 27 to 11 in their first game of the season, trailing 6 to 3 at the half. The Aurelia junior high squad edged Alta 30 to 29 with Alta leading 11 to 8 at the break. The junior high will play at Quimby on Monday December 19.
Joe Coombs, son of Mr and Mrs Cliff Coombs Aurelia Iowa, on Wayne State Teachers College boxing team of Wayne Nebraska, travels with a 10 man squad on a barnstorming tour ending in the deep south. First match December 16 at Springfield against Southwest Missouri State Teachers. December 19 at Bryan against Allen Military Academy. December 21 finale against McNeese College Lake Charles Louisiana.
The Aurelian features staff members led by Mrs Miller and Donna Fraser with student reporters and grade supervisors listed. It also highlights Teacher of the Week Mr Robert J Martin and Senior Keith Langwin detailing hobbies, activities, and plans after graduation.
The Aurelia Adult and Farmers Evening School programs start January 4 with women’s sessions led by Miss Virginia Herrick showing figurine painting textile painting and sewing, plus a men’s agriculture class. Topics include livestock, corn borer control, meat marketing, farm policy, and more. Weekly meetings run through March 8 with lunch provided.
Frank and Everett Radle announce a new electrical business partnership. The outfit will operate as Radio Bros electricians with both men bringing years of experience in the trade to the venture.
January 9 sale announced for Mrs. Clifford Anderson located one half mile east and nine miles south of Aurelia. January 31 sale for Clarence Eischen at 34 miles south and three miles west of Aurelia. Auctioneers Hal Strom and Gustafson.

Gerald Parrott, 15, son of Mr and Mrs Fred Parrott of south Aurelia, joined the 4 H chapter this year as a freshman greenhand. He plans a Poland China litter project and enjoys working with livestock, especially cattle, showing a good natured, hardworking attitude.
A new girls basketball group plans a bake sale on December 17, 1949 at Lockins Insurance building to raise money for uniforms and equipment. Public support is requested with donations welcomed and appreciated.
Aurelia hosts its first ever girls basketball game in the Aurelia gym facing Meriden’s second team at 7 30 pm. The double header ends with an Aurelia Alumni game. The team has won its first two games including a 39 28 win over Fairview. A bake sale at Lockin Insurance on Saturday December 17 raises funds for team suits.
The first fox hunt of the winter season will be held Sunday after noon at 12 30 starting at the Sangwin farm corner four miles south and one mile west of Aurelia. The event is led by Herbert Langwin elected head of the county fox hunts by the Little Sioux Red and Gun club. No hunts will be held on the next two Sundays due to Christmas and New Year’s. Fox hunting resumes Sunday January 8 with time and place to be announced.
A special music program titled The Light of the Ages will be presented by Mt Olive Baptist Church choir on Sunday evening December 18 at 7 30. The public is invited. The annual church school Christmas program follows Friday December 23 at 7 30.

The Aurelia Commercial Club schedules two free holiday events. Santa will visit Main Street at 3 30 PM to hear children's Christmas wishes and accept letters. A second free show, Bush Christmas, starts at 2 PM at the Aurelia theater to allow kids to meet Santa.
A northwest wind of 40 miles per hour whips across Iowa on a heavy dust storm darkening the sun. In Aurelia area Mrs. Wm. Ogle, once of Afton township, dies at her daughter’s home near Aurelia. Aurelia high school names 18 football players with major letters for 1939 season.
Classes at the Aurelia school will be dismissed at 2 30 p m on Thursday after noon December 22 for Christmas vacation. The break will last about a week and a half with school resuming Tuesday morning January 3.
