Iowa Department of Agriculture used three trucks for ten years to study operating costs. Each truck cost 1380 dollars, sold for 370 after three years, giving 1010 dollars depreciation per truck. Total per-truck cost 2299.77 includes depreciation, fuel, tires, repairs, storage, and misc. The fleet logged 169257 miles, about 63086 per truck, or 20000 per year each. Net 4.6 cents per mile, with state costs vs private owners showing 5.6 cents per mile for similar conditions. Sale column indicates items available this week.
Cherokee county 4 H judging team accompanied by county agent C G Turner left Wednesday for Des Moines to compete at the state fair. Kenneth Pennington William Rankin Ross Pinkerton and Harold Miller form the county delegation with Rankin the previous year's seventh place individual.

Last week the Grease Balls beat the Nickel Dusters 13 to 5 with Grapen and Clair Whitney on the winning battery. A dispute left the Sewer Rats game vs the Grease Balls tied 4 to 4 at week’s end with no decision on counting it. Aurelia's All-Star kittenball team crushed Cherokee State Hospital 18 to 3, while Aurelia Cubs fell 11 to 10 to Hanover. Standings show Penny Pickers leading with 6 losses 6.643 percent. Sewer Rats and Grease Balls both at 6.571. Nickel Dusters at 3.214.
The Highview Consolidated schools will open Monday August 29, a week earlier than most schools. Helen Quintard daughter of A R Quintard was elected 3rd and 4th grade teacher in Palmer Iowa in her first teaching post. Oscar Helberg and daughter Nelen of Lindstrom Minnesota visited relatives in Alta. Evelyn Schuler heir of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schuler married Mr Allie Hanson at South Sioux City Nebraska. Dorothy LaBron daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert LaBron married Lamont Thorpe of Karty at Storm Lake. LaBron was in Alta High School class of 1942.
Television a marvel of the 20th century will be exhibited at the Clay County Fair in Spencer from September 20 to 24. The exhibit, first complete of its kind, lets visitors witness the entire process in operation. The display was secured by the fair’s executive board after weeks of negotiations and will also be shown at the Iowa and Minnesota state fairs. Last fall over 45,000 people daily crowded Madison Square Garden to see the phenomenon.
Margaret Graham, 16, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Peter Graham, died Sunday after being injured in a Saturday night auto accident near Quimby. She and friend Ellis Jones were returning from town when a car driven by Adolph Hemple struck them. Graham suffered multiple injuries and died at Sioux Valley Hospital after being conscious until 9 am.

Ruebsams called to Aurelia Thursday by Tobe Ruebsam illness. he was operated at Alta hospital and improving. Berneice Kolpin helping. Fred Tiges of Brooke visited Kolpin Friday. M Ilines of Aurelia visiting W M Booth. Orville Erickson spent weekend with relatives at Estherville. Max Ammons attended Bobbie Dawson party Tuesday.

Sig Haugdah renowned dirt track champion plans to set a new half mile record at the Iowa State Fair on Friday afternoon August 26. He previously became the first to reach three miles per minute and orders a new cylinder head for his Miller straight eight in pursuit of three world records at the Fair races.
