Aurelia FFA chapters cut corn at rural road intersections as a safety project from the Gol den Acres FFA chapter. High cornstalks blocked motorists views, and farmers who permitted the work were thanked by FFA members.
The 8th Annual reunion of Co B of the Quartermaster Gas Supply Co from World War II gathered more than 80 relatives and friends at Aurelia Park Shelter House for a picnic and social day. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Glenn Portier Franklin Nebraska Mr and Mrs Raymond Dickey and family Grant City Missouri and many others from Nebraska Iowa Wisconsin and Kansas. Next year’s reunion will be in Kansas City Kansas on the 3rd Sunday in August.
Mr and Mrs Fred Wieland invite relatives and friends to an open house at their home on Sunday August 26 from 2 to 5 p.m. The event honors their golden anniversary with no formal invitations issued.
Mr and Mrs Ben Holloway have purchased the Betty Wring home of which they now reside John Otten sold his 120 acre farm to Marvin Mann of Aurelia for 375 per acre total 45000 dollars
The 1962 grid season opens with four home games for Aurelia. Laurens Elks visit Sept 14 with 7:30 p.m. kickoffs after a conference time change. Equipment issues and practice times are outlined for the week ahead.
The American Legion and Auxiliary host a potluck supper starting at 7 30 in the evening. Speakers Jack Christensen and Don Scales, both Boys State attendees, and Ann Estes, a Girls State attendee, will share their experiences.
Sunday night a car and a westbound truck collided at a rural intersection west of Aurelia near Enoch Nelson's farm. Leon F. Johnson suffered shock and minor injuries, his wife Sharon had a skull fracture and broken ankle, their 7 month old Walter had cuts and bruises. Driver of the truck Fillmore Gustafson escaped injury. The car struck the truck on the left rear as the truck carried silage. the truck overturned and both vehicles were badly damaged.
Mr and Mrs Eric Gustafson and Ray returned from a 12 day northwest Canada sightseeing tour visiting the Black Hills South Dakota through North Dakota Montana Calgary Lake Louise Winnipeg and Minnesota. Sharri Stutz Jolene Rapp visited the Louis Wojack home in Butterfield where baby Louis John was born with Irwin Stutz as grandparent. Wesley Nelson Craig and Gretta Nelson and Larry Nelson family of Cedar Rapids also reported a Minnesota vacation.
Henry K. Nielsen of Storm Lake submitted the low bid for Aurelia's new fire station and will build it after the contract. His bid was 12,775 dollars, 1,475 over the bond election limit, covered by a donation from the Fire Department. Construction starts early September and finishes in December on a lot south of Pauls self service laundry.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Chilgren of Aurelia announce the engagement of their daughter Peggy Ann of Ames to Pfc. Samuel R. Smith of Ames. Peggy Ann, a 1958 Aurelia High School graduate and Northwest Institute of Medical Technology alumna, works with Doctors Fellows Rosebrook and Gartin in Ames. Samuel R. Smith, a 1957 Ames High School graduate, serves in the U.S. Marine Corps and is stationed at the Naval Air Station in Memphis, Tennessee. No wedding date has been set.
A long list of visitors and extended travels fills Sunset Knoll notices. Families from Aurelia Cherokee Storm Lake and Algonquin report visits and 11 day trips to Seymour Wisconsin plus trips to Mason City Hillsboro Brandon and Denver.
A bake sale at Nelson cafe Friday netted 150 dollars for an organ at Sunset Knoll lounge. Total contributions reach 480 with 400 still needed. a rummage sale next month will help. Donations welcomed via Mrs H H Deyloff Mrs George Wharton Jr or Mrs Verna Lockin. Sunset Knoll Auxiliary invites new members. next meeting is Monday Aug 27 at 2 p.m.
Funeral services were held Monday in Tarpon Springs Florida for Frank Wharton who died after a short illness. The service at Warpon Springs Aug YT was led by Pastor Ostlund of the Conyonepa Qonal church with music by Mrs Harris Leonard and Mrs Lee Robinson. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill cemetery. He was born in Aurea April a 1880 and spent the last decade in Florida. He leaves a sister Mrs Reynolis of Orlando and a brother Ro Wharton S of Aurelia. His wife Carol preceded him in death in 1904.
