Iowa County farmers cut corn cost per bushel despite higher yields

Eighteen Iowa County farmers kept complete cost accounts for last year and produced 1 187 acres of corn at an average cost of 52.5 cents per bushel based on 50.7 bushels per acre. Man and horse labor were major expenses, with equipment costs and manure adding significant shares. Two-row cultivators saved 20 to 25 cents per acre, enabling larger acreages. A large rain fell nearby Thursday afternoon after press deadlines.
