Less Corn More Small Grain Now Iowa AAA Study
Iowa farmers cut intertilled crop acreage by 5 percent in 1940 while maintaining gains in soil conserving crops. About 75 percent of farmers and 80 percent of cropland were in the AAA program, but nonparticipation rose due to higher corn prices and rents. Nonparticipants on poorer land kept to 1929-33 plans. better land farmers increased corn and soil-depleting crops. Southern Iowa remained the region with the most nonparticipants.
