In a perilous river gorge Lee struggles as the current hurls him toward the falls. A beacon fire appears and Leboeuf appears to aid, sweeping Lee into a fish net and pulling him onto a rock ledge where he collapses unconscious.
Rathway drags Joyce and a bag of gold through a tunnel to safety after overpowering her. He climbs the cliff with the treasure and returns to the house, planning to flee by motor boat to Siston Lake while Joyce lies unconscious, then awakens aboard the boat and rebels, forcing him to restrain her with ropes.
Rathway plans to flee with Joyce and Estelle after moving the gold to a swamp hut and loading a drum of gasoline for a motor boat. He seeks safety with Joyce and a Free Traders post, while his men spiral into drunken chaos and alarm over Estelle’s return provokes fresh rage.
Lee awakes in a gorge with Rathway’s men pursuing Joyce. Leboeuf, the loyal Indian, guides Lee toward a concealed river path and a plan to trap the attackers. Joyce screams as Rathway’s boat carries her away, and Lee vows to kill Rathway if harm befalls her.
A witness story unfolds with Leboeuf revealing Jim Rathway’s past as a dealer in whisky and a kidnapper who led a woman away from her people. He explains Rathway’s long escape, pursuit, and the risk of exposing a broader police case as emotions flare and tied loyalties collide.
