Untold Clay Scandal Tainted 1832 Presidency Tale
A Minneapolis city hall recital recounts an unwritten page of history about Henry Clay and the 1832 presidential race. Mary Hunter, a 95 year old former slave, cites a scandal involving a freed NC octoroon lover that allegedly derailed Clay’s bid. A second item notes a Birmingham consul's claim of a clock controlled gas lighting device, promising automated on off cycles for urban illumination with yearly reset minimal maintenance.
