Lincoln's playful parenting drives neighborhood chatter
The Literary Digest notes Lincoln often carried his children on his shoulders or by his coat as he walked Springfield streets. Neighbors recall lively scenes and the humorous tyrannies of his sons. One day neighbor Roland Diller heard a ruckus at the door and found Lincoln with the boys, quipping that the world itself has two walnuts for three eaters.

Vegetable Caterpillar Growth Mystifies New Zealand
An odd natural wonder in New Zealand shows a caterpillar about a foot long and pale, appearing normal until it dies a buried death in the earth. A green shoot then grows from the head, forming leaves at the top while roots fill the body. The specimen remains intact, the roots stay inside the skin, and the creature presents a curious living-dead contrast with horn and eyes still visible.
