Dropt Dead At Dinner At Pine Village
Tra A Short, a longtime insurance agent in the area, died suddenly of heart failure while at his brother Perry Short’s dinner table west of Pine Village. He survived by two sisters and three brothers, was involved with the Continental Insurance Co, and faced past allegations of arson connected to barn fires, which ruined his agency. Funeral held at Pine Village with Rev John Ward officiating.

A flood damaged Ravine park washing out a new access road and footbridges. A century old oak toppled into a footbridge near the island while another large tree was blown down in Arms woods for use as park posts. Prairie dog village near the cabin was flooded. four animals were rescued and revived by Mrs. Beamer and later released back to their burrows as the area recovers. Mrs. Archie Johnson and daughter visited Mrs. Cicely Johnson and Mae Johnson in Kramer on Wednesday.

Miss Fannie F. Larmore, a mathematics instructor at Attica High School for over two years, retires to marry Cecil O. Gamble in April. The couple plans to reside in St. Louis after their wedding at the Larmore home near Anderson. Miss Larmore will be succeeded by Miss Sarah Goldman of Terre Haute.

After last week’s flood the Attica region shows mud coated streets while bridges including the Wabash and C and E I survive. Rail lines recover with the Covington branch only temporarily halted and crews rush to repair washed grades and trestles.
New Lime Plant to Rise on Shawnee Creek Farm
McKee and Irwin sign a twenty year lease with J. Wesley Whicker to develop lime beds into a lime fertilizer and stone crushing plant near Shawnee Creek. The operation plans to move McKee’s Yeddo plant, employ 15 to 20 workers by August, and ship powdered lime to Gary and South Chicago as fertilizer and steel flux.
