A promotional note proclaims the store is more helpful than ever as it thanks customers for their confidence. It promises closer public contact and continued development into greater usefulness with a focus on customer service.
A crowded catalogue touts a large Dress Goods section with 50 pieces priced 85 and 50c, including wool and novelty fabrics, 40-inch widths, and rich color novelties. Also advertised are jackets, capes, beaver and kersey options, linens, napkins, damask, towels, stockings for children, new silks, curtains, bedspreads, quilts, flour, underwear, and carpets with emphasis on value, style, and sale variety.
The Atlantic Canning Co finished its corn pack except for company grown corn. Average corn yield was two and a half tons per acre at four dollars per ton, about eleven dollars per acre to the farmer including fodder. Pack totaled 1,560,000 corn cans and 249,000 pea cans. Labor paid about twelve thousand dollars.
During the morning service last Sunday L B Wickersham pastor of the Methodist church read a report on three years of his pastorate. It shows a flattering condition with 579 total members and 84 removals. New members contributed 4 925 385 toward the pastor salary and benevolences. He leaves for conference next Tuesday carrying six to seven hundred dollars from the church to benevolent funds.
The Maine result shows Republicans winning large majorities in the U S House districts with Powers, Reed, Dingley, Milliken, and Boutelle all re elected. Democrats will hold fewer than six seats in the state house and none in the senate while gold and prohibition factions fade.
A special train of eleven cars carried about 1000 residents from Cadiz and Harris counties to Canton for a visit to Major McKinley. D A Hollingaworth introduced the visitors as farmers and wool growers from Harrison County. McKinley praised the region's agricultural heritage and urged tariff protection for wool, citing declines in sheep numbers and wool prices since 1891. He referenced the 1890 Republican tariff law as positive protection and warned of free trade harming wool growers.
A vast crowd filled the Coliseum in New York as Bourke Cockran spoke on the money question, with a capacity crowd cheering, bands playing and flags waved. The event opened with T. J. Mahoney introducing J. Sterling Morton, and Cockran then spoke for nearly two hours before departing for Minneapolis.
