Indians Strike For More Wages At Stake
One hundred fifty Indians working for Frank K Vance went on strike at Derr River Minnesota threatening to burn and scalp Vance if demands for higher pay per ton of hay cutting were refused. They previously accepted 2 50 a ton until learning hay prices rose and shifted their demand to per ton for cutting and putting up. Vance fled and hid during the incident. Later, Pawnee Pass Reservoir company seeks 800000 acres in Logan county for irrigation under the arid land act. A 1500 million cubic feet reservoir would irrigate 300000 acres with a 50 mile ditch, a plan deemed feasible by the state land office.
