Southwestern Iowa Horticultural Society Meeting Notice

Order on demurrer and injunction in Cass County Bank case

On October 30, 1895 the court overruled the demurrer except as noted and issued a temporary writ of injunction upon bond of $1,000. The injunction restrains creditors from suits against stockholders for bank liabilities under the 208th act or article 8 of the bank's charter, while denying injunction against actions against stockholders for fraud or misrepresentation or improper organization. W H McConvill returned from Hampton where he played David in David the Shepherd Boy and led the cast with strong tenor singing. The Hampton Globe praised his performance, noting his solos as outstanding and earning generous applause from musical observers. Emma Wiley Cushing dies after long illness in Atlantic Iowa

Emma Wiley Cushing a well known Atlantic figure from early settlement days died at her home on Saturday October 19 1895. She was a handsome educated musician mother of Edith a schoolteacher and sister of Col Joseph Wiley of Davenport. An ardent church member she faced suffering with patience and hope leaving a sister Nellie deceased and a brother in Davenport. The Des Moines Mail and Times notes her refined character and musical talent and bids a sweet sleep to one who bore tribulation with Christian faith.
