In Cumberland on May 16 a $10,000 damages suit was filed against John Reed a young Cumberland merchant by Dick Margerel alleging the alienation of Margerel's wife. The case, seen as blackmail, has reportedly been settled with minimal dispute after Mrs Margerel and child left for Marengo to live with relatives.
Atlantic aims to make Decoration Day a notable event with the Atlantic band and glee clubs performing. Marshalls L F Mullen and John Moreland will lead the street parade while fire department civic societies and schools participate. About one thousand school children in line with flags are hoped for as part of the afternoon program of speaks and music. Community support for expenses is strong as delegations from Cass and neighboring counties prepare to attend.
H Heyman of Peoples Clothing House sues Crawford Nebraska bank officials after accepting Whipple bank certificates for 7000 dollars then losing payment when the bank collapsed. He pursues the president directors and stockholders for damages and makes two buyers co-defendants in a Douglas County district court case set for June. A second item notes Will Wright, once a Deaf and dumb compositor, inherits 2500 dollars from a paid up Odd Fellows policy and a 1000 dollar estate after his father’s death in Allerton.
The Needles & Son company in Phillipsburg expands its shoveling boards, an attachable endgate for wagons. They sold over five thousand units after patenting a new design, now turning out about a car load daily and shipping to Kansas City and major western centers. They keep twelve thousand in stock to meet rising demand from wholesale houses.
A new 232 page volume by Edwin Gordon Lawrence offers a complete program of vocal and physical exercise for refined expression. It includes breathing, articulation, delivery, posture guidance, plus a speaker with poetry and prose selections chosen for merit and exercise value. Published in New York, price one dollar, postage free.
Spokane, May 17. Theodore Cushing shot and killed Thomas King at King's ranch following a dispute over wages. King demanded payment, threatened Cushing with a club, and pursued him. Cushing retrieved a gun from the house, fired, and King died within hours. Cushing surrendered and is jailed.
A Saturday evening gathering at Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Savery marked the gent's 50th birthday and his recent wedding on the eve of his 21st birthday. Guests included Dr. Nichols and Mrs Nichols, Silas Wilson, R. G. Phelps, R. Laurence, J. H. Wood, Julian Phelps, and Miss E. P. Phelps. Also advertised were new parlor paper and borders at 20 cents per bolt by Fred Alexander.

D E Carr of 1235 Harrison street Kansas City recounts an inflammatory rheumatism attack after a Wisconsin trip. He credits Chamberlain's Pain Balm with reducing swelling and pain after using three fifty cent bottles. Sold by W Emmert & Co druggists. The piece also notes Rome's ancient pig feet sale and De Witts Early Risers as remedies, and cites a New York female surplus of 60,000 over men.
A collection of patent medicine ads touts Mystic Cure for rheumatism and neuralgia with dramatic claims and a 75 cent price, plus One Minute Cough Cure praised for croup relief and general lung comfort. Also marketed English Spavin Liniment for horses, promising blemish removal and cost savings. Sold by W M Nichols in Atlantic Iowa and noted testimonials from Mrs Harriet Evans Hinsdale Illinois.
In the Circuit Court of Iowa Western division case Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance vs Isaac Dickerson et al public notice: master will sell at public outcry on June 8 1895 between 10 am and 4 pm at the north front door of the Cass County Courthouse Atlantic Iowa the lot 13 in block 34 and part of lot 14 in block 34 in Atlantic together with rents and profits to satisfy 4531.60 dollars with 6.5 percent interest plus 8592 solicitors fees and costs. Guernsey and Baily solicitors Des Moines Iowa.
By virtue of a fee bill execution from the Clerk of the District Court of Cass County Iowa Lydia Forsyth as plaintiff against H K Forsyth for fifty seven dollars and fifty cents plus costs levies on Lots 3 and 4 Block 28 Second Addition Griswold Cass County Iowa sale to the highest bidder for cash May 29 1895 in front of the Court House door at Atlantic at 10 oclock A M presence by the undersigned Sheriff of Cass County.
Notice states capital stock rises from 20 000 to 20 000 divided into 200 shares of 100 each with 16 000 paid in and the balance to be paid from profits or stock sold for cash. Stock may be increased up to 3 000 or 300 shares by stockholders without further amendment. Peter Christensen and Jacob Christensen sign as officers.
In the Southern District of Iowa Western Division circuit court a decree from April 16 1895 directs the master in chancery to sell on June 8 1895 the Cass County Iowa block 33 lot 1 and 2 with appurtenances and rents to satisfy 6957 08 plus interest and 109 57 legal fees and costs to the highest bidder for cash at Atlantic Cass County Iowa. The sale proceeds go to the complainants Guernsey and Baily solicitors.
