Railroad managers seek switchmen plan amid looming strike

Chicago March 11. President Carpenter of the Chicago and Eastern Illinois railroad says he has demanded an answer from switchmen about their course. Most roads issued similar demands as managers plan a united response. Switchmen refuse to speak. Railroads prepared for a strike and have hired substitutes. some berths at Twelfth street freight house. Union leader Chand Master Wilson says he knows nothing of the demand. General managers expect shared losses if a strike occurs, pro rating costs across roads. The switchmen grievance committee will meet soon to decide.
