City Council Meeting Adds Appraisals and Damages Plan
City officials met in regular session with Mayor and most councilmen present. Bonds for a nightwatch were approved. The council referred a scale ordinance for modification and formed committees to appraise damages from extending Thirteenth Street to Birch Street and to grant ninety days to raise funds for payment. Bills were approved and fire and water boxes for hose jackets were to be fixed. Various local residents and visitors were noted, along with a Mrs. Lavery club gathering and upcoming events. Temperature reported 82 above at seven.

Various Local Updates From Harlan Area and Surroundings
Mrs. Herman Dackon of Harlan plans to return home this evening after visiting Mrs. Henry Dackon. Miss Snow, sister of Mrs. J. W. Niles, traveled from Chicago to Lincoln and visited in the city two days before continuing west today. The south branch engine crew made an extra trip to Lewis to lay new ties for frost‑season repairs. Supt. Hobbs and Mr. Kirkpatrick from Des Moines and Valley Junction rode the flyer today. work on improvements will start after frost leaves the ground, around April first. An outstanding Baptist Church debt of about 428 dollars has been reduced to 6000 by the efforts of the ladies who plan a supper to clear the balance. Sherman Peterson, Park House Bus driver, left for Maryville to procure a wagonette for Park Hotel patrons to the depot. W. N. Ross and J. H. Mather went to Audubon by special car to lease elevator property. Deafness case notes cite 12 years of protracted catarrh eased by Dr Agnew’s Catarrhal Powder. A local ad lists sale of 180 sheep and cattle near Atlantic on March 9. Foley’s Kidney Cure is recommended for kidney disease sufferers.

Record mortgage signals vast C B I P Ry expansion
County Recorder Herbert filed a mortgage of 100 million dollars by the C B I P Ry to issue 4 per cent bonds payable in gold and to take up 52 million bearing 6 per cent. Eight million will fund rolling stock maintenance and road improvements. Forty million funds new road construction. The loan aims to save interest on old bonds. The pamphlet is over twenty five thousand words and duplicates are printed on gummed paper for record keeping. Atlantic is expected to receive a portion of the improvements.
