Washington May 81 The military invasion of Cuba has begun with troops breaking camp and boarding transports at gulf ports. About 25 ships capable of carrying up to 80 000 men are ready to sail to the enemy’s territory. Troops started assembling and were loaded on ships bound for Cuba as directions from the war department were issued.

A freight train collided with cattle a mile from Oakland at about 9 pm. Engineer Snyder Hart was thrown and trapped, suffering a broken ankle and bruises, while the engine and five train cars were badly wrecked. Wrecking crews arrived by 11 pm and returned at dawn.
