Improvement Club discusses paying off water works bonds
At a Thursday meeting in the firemen hall the Improvement Club debated gradually paying off the water works bonds with a view to city ownership. R G Phelps outlined history since 1881, noting bonds of 50,000 and 20,000 stock, and a 20 year lease to the city with a buy option. He argued surpluses should fund debt payoff to gain annual net income of about 6,000 and cheaper city water. Several members supported a committee to draft a memorial and to present the water works case to bond holders.
