Boston December 11 Under court order Treasurer Harris of the Union Pacific system is prepared to pay coupons matured from October 1887 to October 1893 inclusive. The court has not yet ordered payment of November coupons. An application to pay December coupons is ready but awaiting November coupon payment order.
Nebraska City on December 12 reports coopers at the cereal mills walked out to protest a cut in the price for making small barrels. The action reflects labor tensions at the plant and could affect grain processing operations in the region.

Ruggles, assistant adjutant general, is named adjutant general with rank of brigadier general, along with a number of other army promotions.
