Omaha court blocks Churchill-Russell appointees in fire and police
In Omaha Judge Hopewell granted a temporary injunction stopping Foster Broatch and Vandervoort from acting as fire and police commissioners until their titles are tested in court. The city council had approved bonds for the three appointees, but plaintiffs argue the appointment violated law and state constitution. A proclamation from the new board orders department obedience.

Victory for Pittsburg Miners as labor wins big contract
In Prarrantine on Aug 38, the Pittsburg miners secured the largest labor victory to date. Operators guaranteed contract fulfillment, raising wages for 10,000 miners across Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. The deal keeps current wages until Oct 3, then adds a 6 cent differential for operators without company stores and another wage increase on Jan 1 to 79 cents. W P Dearmott shifted stance to avoid company stores, and Ohio Indiana Illinois rates rise to 60 cents. The settlement potentially ends strikes nationwide and shifts the year end to Jan 1. McBryde led the campaign.
