Washington April 7 The senate spent the day on the postoffice appropriation bill sparking sharp criticism from Senators Gorman and Allen over administration, civil service irregularities, and large political contributions. A final vote was poised for today as bids for post office supplies and dividends for creditors were also noted.
Mayor Davis reports an attempted assassination on a dark street near his home. An unknown man shouted a political epithet, fired at close range, and then fled as Davis fired three shots. He showed a torn hat at a Republican mass meeting. The Times disputes the claim as an election influence ploy in a bitter GOP battle with A P A supporters and Democrats.
P D Armour predicts wheat may soon sell for about one dollar per bushel, from a merchant's view not a scalper's. He says the rise should be based on market conditions, with improved prospects for corn oats and provisions, while other products may follow with gains. In Kentucky, twelve county conventions met, McKinley and Bradley each gained six delegates, total delegates instructed 110 for McKinley and 98 for Bradley.

Special from Montague and Co reports live stock receipts at Atlantic Iowa with hogs and cattle prices. Hog receipts reach about 13 000 with mixed weights. hogs 3.70 to 4.00 per hundredweight. Cattle receipts around 2 500, market strong for some classes while other cattle show slower demand.
