Correctionville dark after fire destroys plant and mill

Fire of unknown origin gutted the $15,000 Sioux City Milling mill owned by U S Renne of Smithland and hit the Union Light and Power plant, leaving Correctionville without power. Renne carried about $5,000 insurance while the light company faced $2,500 in losses with $1,000 insured. Water pumping required gasoline engines as town faced darkness. Baby drinks lye dies in Grinnell area. The 14 month old daughter of Louis Chamer wandered to a brush pile containing old can with lye, drank it, and died.
