An old advertisement notes changeable fall weather brings bronchial coughs and bronchitis. It promotes Foley's Huey and Tar Compound to soothe inflamed mucus, relieve coughing, and expel mucus. Claims no opiates and urges purchasing from druggists in a yellow package. Also cites local merchants and brands like Oakland autos, Western Auto, Columbia Trust and Candy, and Hansen & Lowe for coal.

Sulzer Prefers Cash to Checks in Impeachment Trial

Albany Sept 26 ten developments marked Governor Sulzer impeachment trial. Jacob H Schiff testified he declined a cash return of a 2600 campaign contribution. The court admitted testimony on campaign gifts not in the articles, including many unaccounted contributions from brewing interests. Sarecky, key witness, was located and served. Judge Cowan testified he helped raise funds for Sulzer. Stadler of American Malting aided Sulzer and later lent funds. Assembly managers ended charges. Mrs Sulzer not slated as star defense witness.

Income tax exemptions set by tariff conferees

The tariff conferees agreed on 3000 dollars as the tax free income for a single man and 4000 dollars for a married man with no child exemptions. A family of ten may claim one 4000 dollar exemption even with separate incomes. They also moved Europe to the free list, kept grain bags on durable goods, and cut the 20 percent house rate on plain jute fabrics to 10 percent. The conference report goes to the house tomorrow and the senate Monday. Few points remain unsettled. report prep will take time.

In Council Bluffs Willam W. Porter abruptly left Justice Cooper's basement court amid a preliminary hearing on alleged arson for insurance. Officers pursued but Porter remains at large. A friend reportedly assisted by slipping him money as he fled. Also reported Fort Dodge: M Zerbs, 60, died after poisoning from mixed bichloride of mercury and calomel prescribed as antiseptic and internal remedy. Marshalltown: Burlington chosen as next League of Iowa Municipalities meeting site with officers elected: President J Fort of Fort Dodge, Vice President Parley Sheldon of Ames, Secretary Treasurer F G Pierce of Marshalltown, Trustee C M Wyth of Cedar Falls. Hillsboro: Robert E Watts, 44, retired merchant, rose at midnight, removed blanket, and killed himself. illness listed as cause.
