Olsen and Son of Oakland Nebraska engaged to drill a new 200 foot well to join the existing deep well from 1944. Anita has two wells but one casing has shifted, preventing pumping.
White Sulphur Springs West Virginia miners led by John L Lewis press plan a no day week as a long coal strike looms. Union rejects a two year extension of the old contract and support for a three day work week remains with the walkout continuing since Monday. Talks with operators at the resort resume September 29 as pensions and welfare disbursements fuel the dispute.
Des Moines hosts the first governor's conference on recreation ahead of the Iowa Recreation Workshop association fall workshop. Gov. William S. Beardsley invites recreation workers to share ideas to promote better recreation in every Iowa community. Secretary of State Melvin D. Synhorst chairs the governor's conference. Ted 4H Corry and J. Nevin are involved in recreation administration.
Nichols, Cedar Rapids recreation superintendent, will participate. After the governor’s morning conference, the workshop will meet in the afternoon with Dr. Harold D. Meyer of the North Carolina Recreation commission addressing the session.
