Gen. Gourko, former Russian army commander, arrives at Murman from the Western front to command Allied operations against Finno-German and Bolshevik forces. His clash with Kerensky over the radical Order 1 led to his exile and later recall. He sailed to England, where King George greeted him before being reassigned to the Western front.

The 240 top communities for fourth Liberty loan subscriptions may name one ship or one tank in the western front effort. Each of the 12 federal reserve districts gets ten ships and ten tanks, with district rules set by the reserve bank. Vessels or tanks must be named after a town, city, township or county.
