Des Moines reports a two day exercise across Iowa and three nearby states demonstrated the usefulness of ground observers in aircraft warning. Volunteers spotted planes before radar, while radar tracked their progress. Overcast weather limited Saturday activity but Sunday brought 500 plus reports to the Des Moines center. An Air Force officer praised civilian volunteers who performed the tasks effectively.
