In Adel district court Howard Lundberg mayor of Atlantic was fined 300 dollars plus costs for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with Marshall Benson also fined 95 and costs. Harley Foster paid 800 dollars for drunken driving. Four forged checks in Atlantic used Lundberg's name. Bryan Parker left Atlantic for a 10 day vacation to California visiting relatives and new grandson. A car crash near Atlantic injured two men but with minor injuries. Aircraft Warning Test Proves Value of Observer System

Des Moines reports a two day exercise across Iowa and three nearby states demonstrated the usefulness of ground observers in aircraft warning. Volunteers spotted planes before radar, while radar tracked their progress. Overcast weather limited Saturday activity but Sunday brought 500 plus reports to the Des Moines center. An Air Force officer praised civilian volunteers who performed the tasks effectively.

Opening fall term draws 17,000 American pupils in Germany

About 17,000 American children attended the first day of the fall term in Germany. The students enrolled in 80 elementary schools and 10 high schools operated by the U S Army as the new term opened in Frankfurt and across Germany.

Flower Show Draws 56 Exhibitors Across Regions

Atlantic Garden club and the home and garden department of the Atlantic Women's club hosted a two day flower show at the First Presbyterian church basement. Exhibitors from Atlantic and neighboring towns displayed 296 entries including 131 specimens and 66 arrangements. Maurine Stanton of Des Moines spoke on making Christmas merry with about five attendees.
