This is NOT the number of the News Telegraph. At the teachers institute the director of vocational education for Iowa discussed stimulating concrete thought. Mr Bender has long been a school man and studied at the State Teachers College and Ames. He did agricultural work at the University of Minnesota showing how familiar examples can boost student thinking. The lesson integrated arithmetic and writing as pupils calculated city population, pork consumption, and costs, then wrote their findings and later raised a pig to apply the lessons learned.

Mrs F G Lattig hosted a Friday luncheon for guests including Mrs Garl Carson of Atlantic and Mrs Ed M Blakesley of Wiota. June Karns became a stenographer at Holtons law office. Holton and Atlantic business were noted. Mrs C G N Campbell won in Adair. A baby girl was born to Mr and Mrs Harry Dressler. Ralph Miller of Citizens State Bank returned from a two week tour through Minnesota and Wisconsin. T T Saunders visited Casey. Howard J Clark and ex-state Senator Joe Allen visited Anita. Mrs H G Hightey and daughter Anita visited Omaha. Mrs Ida Fongers returned to Ottumwa after visiting her son Lee Rongers. Jared Blattner moved to Atlantic to live with his son Fred. Dr P T Willama will move into Blattner’s house. Mr and Mrs Frank Carter Sr accompanied by Mr and Mrs Frank Carter Jr toured Des Moines. Marjorie Bean, daughter of Mr and Mrs L E Bean, was under nurse care this past week. A race horse belonging to Dennis Pearce was seriously injured in an accident south of town with a car from Dexter. Ty C E Harry gave prompt aid.
