Pryor announced former heavyweight boxing champion Gene Tunney would speak for Willkie. Tunney, a state Democrat, is slated to appear in an address at City. The note comes as Pryor confirms Tunney’s planned public support for the campaign.
Washington reports the army will ship its bombsight for all combat planes to Great Britain, while Britain orders a large number of American merchant ships. The US aims to deliver 12 000 additional aircraft to the RAF, bringing total American planes to 26 000 for Britain.
In Des Moines Iowa November 1 1928 Ada Campbell twelve heroically acted to save her six year old sister Mary when a jack o lantern lit dress caught fire at a Halloween party. Ada removed the burning dress and smothered the flames averting critical injury. Mary sustained second degree burns.
Reports that Doris Duke Cromwell will travel to Honolulu to initiate divorce proceedings were not confirmed or denied by James H. R. Cromwell, candidate for the U S Senate from New Jersey. He said it was up to Mrs Cromwell to verify or deny the information.

Nearly 100 men and women claiming suspension from WPA rolls for not voting for Roosevelt picketed Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House. Police kept gates to the executive offices closed. Howard O. Hunter, acting WPA commissioner, called the charges a political trick and an unqualified lie and cited Communist investigations in New York as context.
Police hunt 19 year old Velda Manson of Hazel Green Wisconsin who escaped from the Dubuque city jail by picking a cell lock and leaving the matron locked in the boys department. She was sentenced to 30 days for shoplifting after arrest on Wednesday. Fraternity pledges noted at Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls Alden Jensen and Jack Platt of Massena joined Alpha Delta Alpha.
National draft officials move to classify about 800000 men for military service by next June and begin questionnaires to send 300000 to camps for a year of training. Officials favor men aged 21 to 26 for long term suitability and note possible earlier volunteers could trim the numbers.
Former President Herbert Hoover presented a national policy to meet immediate dangers abroad and keep peace at home in a Lincoln speech.
