Officials expect a near peace pact at Niagara Falls with mediators close to an agreement on the land question. Justice Lamar said American and Mexican delegates agreed on some points and disagreed on none as talks continued amid a hopeful atmosphere.
At Niagara Falls delegates from Mexico and the United States reached mutual concessions in the land dispute, avoiding a total deadlock. Mexican delegates argued land reform lies with Mexico’s legislature, while U S delegates urged a solution to address conditions in Mexico. A joint statement was postponed as talks continue.
Bam Goss has been very ill with tonsillitis but shows some improvement. His friends hope for an early recovery as he remains under medical care.
Saturday afternoon Frank Garside and Jake Weltzel drove two Max well cars from Des Moines to this city to deliver to Ed Dimly of southwest of town and Lou Moss of Lincoln township who had just purchased them.
Reginald Barr a 25 year old railroad clerk died when he threw himself before a Burlington train at Leslie Chicago. In his pocket a note claimed Miss Florence Bentley 20 found dead in woods at Downers Grove died in his arms as he attempted to kiss her confirming a fatal romance.
Owen Meredith Glen Jones Lloyd Gardner Earl Beech Raymond Anderson and Ross Lewis from a local high school attended the state field meet in Des Moines. Thirty seven schools competed. sixteen earned points and Atlantic was among twenty one with none. Meredith made the high jump semi finals and Jones the discus semi finals but both were eliminated without scoring. West Des Moines led with the most points.
J W Butler, 75, underwent an operation at the Emmett hospital for removal of a cancer under his arm after an abscess formed earlier. Surgeons lanced the swelling but later made a larger incision to remove the cancer. he has not yet regained consciousness and is regarded as one of the county’s best known residents of Buckresk.
Nichols and J. Harlan each purchased a new Cadillac from Johnson Auto Company, adding luxury to their local fleet.
Des Moines Iowa May 26 E Meredith democratic candidate for the United States senate fired back at Connolly in a Sunday statement claiming $1600 was sent into Connell Bluffs by Dubuque interests to sway southwestern Iowa for Connolly He accuses Connolly of running a non union carriage plant opposing tariff removal and of misrepresenting his campaign committee He also says Connolly seeks a diplomatic post if defeated and notes Meredith was a major Polk county contributor to Claude Porter in opposition to him.
At a regular Elks meeting the plan for a new brick and stone home was approved. William Guth of Omaha will draft the specifications. The two story building with basement will front 85 feet on Poplar street and cost about $30,000. The trustees may sell the current building, then start the new project.
Dr. D. K. Pollock, a well known local physician and surgeon, will leave Atlantic to locate in Minneapolis after visiting there and seeing an opportunity in Dr Dermody's succession in St. Louis. He and his wife depart Sunday, joining his brother who will also move to Minneapolis with his practice.
Veterans marching in the Memorial day parade may be joined by a novelty band from the colored minstrel show. The advance man, Mr. Parks, was in the city yesterday and offered the band’s services. If accepted, the colored musicians will head the procession.
A windy squall passed Griswold last night with rain, enough to blow down one or two locust trees. Clouds churned but no lasting damage occurred as the town avoided further wind and rain.
Jacob Riis author and sociologist died in Baard Massachusetts this afternoon at the age of likely noted. The prominent reformer known for muckraking urban life and social studies passed away after a long career shaping public opinion and social policy.
A weather note from Grinwold reports about 1.5 inches of rain fell there last night while nearby areas saw lighter showers. Early evening looked ominous as clouds gathered but the local rainfall fell short of expectations.
In Cleveland Ohio May 26 fire destroyed lumber yards and cars causing about 150000 dollars in damage. Fisher and Wilson Co and Lanigan Lumber Co suffered large losses as the city viaduct was partially wrecked. In Keokuk Iowa May 26 fire wiped out the Harrison Box factory lumber yards and the Henderson Washington Machine Company plant, totaling about 25000 dollars in damage.
Washington May 26 dispatches from Consular Agent Car bearing on Carrante Villa mediation conference are in Bryan's hands for the cabinet meeting. They are expected to reveal the attitude of Carrante and Villa.
The Alumni association met at the high school building last night to plan this year’s banquet for the senior class. William Cornell was elected president, Mrs C A Grubb vice president, and P Chase chairman of the executive committee. The banquet is proposed for Friday evening June 5 with venue to be decided by the committee among several suggested sites.
Mrs Anna K Anderson a widow aged 76 of Marne died yesterday at 3 15 PM at her daughter's home Mrs B M Kellogg from old age She is survived by six children including Mrs Kelleg Marne Andrew Anderson North of Wiota George Anderson south of Atlantic Mrs Hyatt Omaha Mrs Schack Grover Colo and Anthony Anderson Marne Funeral services will be held at the Kellogg home at 10 AM then at Oak Hill church at 1 PM with interment in Oak Hill cemetery She was born in Denmark and lived in Marne for ten years Many friends mourn her passing.
Funeral services for H. F. Seaman were conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock at his South Spruce street home. The Rev. Currie led the service and interment followed in Atlantic cemetery, marking the deceased's Sunday passing.

L C Ledyard’s subpoena was withdrawn and he agreed to testify truthfully, though not like Mellen. In Portsmouth England Sir Thomas Lipton launched Shamrock IV, his latest America Cup challenger, amid a high-profile gathering.
Consul Silliman reached Vera Cruz from Mexico City with a weak stance aided by a soldier. His wife Mrs. Silliman is ill at Saltillo.
The board of bishops of the Des Moines conference of the M E church moved the annual session opening from September 16 to September 9 in Des Moines. The adjustment avoids the Gas county fair and the start of school, allowing school children to attend. The conference draws over 400 visitors to the city.
Earl Eichhorn appeared before Mayor Burne on a speeding and muffler violation charge, pleaded not guilty, and posted a $10 bond to stand trial. He failed to appear at 2 PM, resulting in the bail being forfeited, with Joe Mackrill arresting.

A large barn at A. J. Roe's farm near WIOTA burned this afternoon. The origin is unknown though a man was seen exiting the barn at about 2:45 and soon after the fire was found inside. Contents were household goods stored in the barn. Roe is away in North Dakota. Loss estimated at 300 dollars.
William Reynolds died this morning at his home fifteen miles west of Atlantic. Born August 29, 1886 in Minols he was 67 years and 87 days old. He and his wife raised ten children in Nebraska and Pottawattamie county. most remain in the county. One son Bert resides in Minnesota and another in Wyoming.
Ben Whiken, arrested Sunday evening on drunkenness and disturbing the peace, released yesterday on a $10 bond to appear before Mayor Barnes for trial yesterday afternoon at 2 o clock, failed to show and forfeited the bond.
