Paris May 7 Representing the American war department estimate that about sixty percent of American soldiers buried in France will be exhumed and sent home. About 77 000 burials have been registered by the Graves Registration Service with roughly 71 000 in France. Not all will be moved as next of kin decide while unidentified remains may stay. The Franco American commission ends a lengthy bargaining over exhumation, with France fearing transport disruption and national agitation if many dead are removed. American officers argue the small zone of operations and long tradition of returning bodies justify the move.

The old contract paid 91 to 4 cents hourly, with the company stating it cannot exceed 47 cents while workers demand 80 cents. The third member notes wages run below wartime sustenance levels, highlighting the tension between labor and management.
