First Walnut Boy Dies in Army in World War I
Leo Mayne Thompson, the first Walnut resident to die in military service, enlisted April 5 in Field Artillery and died in a Fort Logan hospital on April 24 from pneumonia. Funeral services were held April 25 with Rev. Davenport presiding. interment at Walnut Cemetery. Survived by parents Mr and Mrs Thompson, three brothers and four sisters.
