An August advertisement extols Vinol as a premier reconstructive tonic for delicate children and run-down, nervous, anaemic individuals. It quotes testimonials from Mrs. C. B. Wilkinson and Mrs. James H. Hall praising appetite, strength, and improved health after Vinol use.
Axel Herman Larson, Red Oak native, served in Company E Seventh U S Infantry and died as a prisoner of war in Worms Germany. He left Red Oak December 12 1917, enlisted in aviation then infantry, reaching France April 5 1918, captured July 15 1918 at Chateau Thierry. Born October 4 1891 in Sweden, he was a carpenter by trade, lived at Stanton, nephew of Andrew Augustson, and was well regarded in the community.
London March 15 United Press report says the Girls of the Land Army will share equally with ex soldiers in the government's land scheme. Thousands of girls want to continue farming and authorities approve, deeming the ploughing man or woman a key state asset.
Royal Air Force operates an air mail service from Marquise near Boulogne to Cologne using balloons as navigational aids above cloud cover. Balloons mark exact localities for pilots to course correct in bad weather and provide landing grounds with observers reporting weather, wind and speed to wireless stations. Night operations planned with lighted balloons and signal lights.
Mrs. Mary Jane Gill widow of M C Gill and longtime Cass County pioneer died Thursday in Extra. She came to the county with her husband in 1862 and was one of the oldest settlers, nearly eighty eight years old at death.
A petition circulated in Atlantic opposes the present general assembly hard road plan. John Dimig leads the drive and attempts to collect signatures from farmers. It claims to ease throat and lung irritation, loosen phlegm, and provide relief in 20 minutes. Available in 80c and 60c sizes, with druggists or mail order from Dodge Center.
High school students at Atlantic protest missing pedestrian walks around the building. They are circulating a petition to connect the north and south entrances with a new walkway, and the petition was being signed liberally at the school yesterday.
