Pyramids to the Sun and Moon loom over excavations. the Moon temple remains largely intact beneath grass and rubble. Archaeologists note possible northern Indian tribal origins and lava-formed evidence near the Goddess of the Wind temple.
Des Moines plans to open its municipal observatory to the public around mid June after spring construction resumes April 1. The city funds the building on Waveland park's highest point with a lecture hall and instrument room to showcase a large telescope. Chicago March 21 AAP Decrease in state prison populations in the Midwest and Southwest is linked to prohibition by many prison authorities. Other factors include high wages, shift labor, indeterminate sentences, and the merit system. Reports show sixteen states fell by nearly an eighth from December 1, 1911 to December 1, 1920, with prohibition named most often by prison officials. The article cites industrial conditions and cites Ohio as an example among others.
Report notes crime did not rise uniformly with prohibition. Nine states saw a net decrease in prisoners, offsetting increases in six states. overall sixteen states showed a net decrease while one remained stationary. Also mentions two used pianos for sale by C P Meredith.
