Harlan Gets Funds for Swimming Pool
Des Moines reports that Harlan’s new WPA swimming pool project funds have been approved to employ 35 WPA workers. Area engineer B J Langdon, under George J Keller, orders work to begin by March 1. The facility will measure 60 by 105 feet with a 12 foot end wading pool. WPA provides up to $31,200 for federal costs with the city supplying equipment materials and some labor.

Indianapolis dispatch reports the capture of Cliff Red a 26 year old farmhand accused of killing his employers Mr and Mrs Paul Brand near Edinburg and assaulting their 12 year old daughter Gloria. State police, acting on tip from Sheriff Cheshire Ramsey, said Red fled in the Brand automobile after the slayings and was seized with an unnamed companion. Evidence at the Edinburg home included a bloodstained butter knife and a broken .22 rifle stock.
